THE PETTINELLI FINANCIAL JOURNEY
Building a Legacy of Integrity and Client-Centered Growth
Our evolution has always been intentional — shaped by the belief that doing right by clients is the only way to grow. What sets our journey apart is not just how far we’ve come, but how we’ve stayed true to our values every step of the way. Today, we continue to build on that legacy with a firm-wide commitment to personalized service, collaborative teamwork, and an unwavering focus on helping each client thrive through every stage of life.
HOW IT ALL BEGAN.
In 1979, Dennis Pettinelli relocated with his family to the West Coast to take over one of the John Hancock Life Insurance Company’s struggling financial services offices as a General Agent. In 2007, he retired from his General Agent role to focus on his passion: serving his clients. His initial plan was to maintain a small family firm with some key employees. His son, Jon Pettinelli, ensured the firm maintained sustainable and fiscally responsible growth while upholding a high level of service to its clients. Janice Fong seamlessly managed operations behind the scenes.
PRACTICING WHAT YOU PREACH.
Dennis came to realize that much of the advice he was giving to his clients was not incorporated into his own business plan. If something happened to him, he needed a plan in place to help his clients follow through with the strategies they had spent so much time developing. He needed a more robust, multifaceted team to implement his vision.
DRAWING INSPIRATION FROM BASEBALL.
In 2010, the San Francisco Giants won the World Series Championship. They did it again in 2012, and again in 2014. The Giants achieved this incredible goal as the result of working together as a multi-layered, cohesive, and supportive team. Inspired by the Giants’ achievement, Dennis set out to build his winning team comprised of committed, skillful, advisory and service team professionals.
CREATING A NEW ENVIRONMENT FOR SUCCESS.
Dennis grew his team but knew he needed to add more talent and depth to the PFP roster. He brought financial professionals to the team who were talented at working with clients, and who could benefit from PFP’s administrative support, mentorship, and most importantly, a growing client base. Dennis and the core leadership team worked to create a new environment in which promising financial professionals could work to develop their skills without having to depend on commission-based sales. These professionals’ sole focus would be on providing an exceptional experience to the PFP client family.
Focused on continued Improvement.
Dennis had built a strong, dedicated, and focused team and was confident all PFP clients were in good hands. He knew he wanted to step back and have more time to dedicate to family, and friends and work with Pettinelli Financial Partners’ clients in a more relaxed manner. In 2019, Dennis decided to sell his shares of the company to Jon and assume his new role as a PFP ambassador.
THE STRIDES WE'VE MADE.
After the pandemic hit, Jon and the leadership team – Rick Rodriguez, Janice Fong, Allison Steele, and Cooper Grady – began implementing plans to respond to unprecedented and ever-changing conditions in the world. They pivoted and added new skills and expertise to the PFP roster. They also made an intentional decision to enhance the structure of the PFP teams with one goal: to further elevate the client experience.
The workplace culture was redesigned to ensure that when a client needed help, everyone on the team was invested in taking care of that client’s needs. To do this, the company was reorganized to seamlessly coordinate service, planning, and advisory teams. Today, each of our clients has a financial advisor who is their main point of contact and a team of professionals who support them.
Pettinelli Financial Partners is now 100% employee-owned; the Leadership team are all shareholders and aligned with the vision that Dennis set forth so many years ago.
